DBA Manager

 Job Purpose:
This role is responsible for providing technical and leadership support for the database environment including overseeing the development and organization of the databases, assessment and implementation of new technologies, and providing Information Technology with a long-term perspective on the relationship of database technology to the business opportunities facing the company. Trains and develops technical support and applications staff to better utilize on-line processing databases environment. Prepares reports and keeps higher-level management informed of group progress and problems and is responsible for managing staff including, performance appraisals, and pay reviews. As a Manager of DBA team, you will also be part of the larger technical leadership community at MedAssets. This community forms the backbone of the company, plays a critical role in the broad business planning, working closely with senior executives to develop business targets and resource requirements, influences our long-term technical and business strategy, helps us hire talented team of engineers and ultimately enables us to deliver innovative new solutions rapidly.

Position Objectives & Responsibilities:
• Understanding of timelines, development strategies, project management, and issue resolution.  Solid understanding of software development, including n-tier development, and software development lifecycle, software database connection technology (connection pooling, MARS, ADO, data access methods, etc.)
• Technical skills should include good knowledge of enterprise-level Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008, SQL Server Reporting Services and Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, ETL, architecture, performance, scalability, high-availability, capacity planning, disaster recovery, architecture design and normalization models and database function layout, standards and best practices.
• Provides leadership during the development and enhancement of production applications including working with applications, technical support and operations during the design, development and implementation of applications.
• Manage an operations team of highly technical subject matter experts in MS SQL and Teradata and provide leadership through process enhancements and tools standardization.
• Lead technical database design activities, produce sizing estimates, consult on testing plans, and participate in all related software build and deployment activities, directly interact with the technical architects and drive infrastructure solutions.
• Work closely with the IT Operations staff to diagnose and resolve escalated technical issues in the production systems, critical to the company’s success.
• Establishes and enforces all database standards throughout & across the development teams. Analyzes all informational requirements of new or production systems and develops database specifications. Establishes and enforces controls to ensure database integrity.

Minimum Qualifications & Competencies:
• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Finance, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent.  5-7 years related experience.  3+ years of leadership experience, including experience leading and supervising teams of highly technical people

• Advanced knowledge of enterprise level MS SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 best practices
• Excellent understanding of Database Modeling, implementation and organization
• Advanced knowledge of normalization/de-normalization usage as it relates to database design and performance impact, SQL Server engine and data storage specifics, including data quality standards and their impact on system performance.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exercises judgment within defined policies and procedures to determine appropriate action, and makes recommendations for process improvements.  Work on issues where analysis of situation requires review of relevant factors.  Manages team budgets of up to $50k
• Typically makes independent decisions in area of responsibility; some cross-departmental joint problem-solving required.

Internal Responsibilities:
* Adheres to all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to those identified within the Standards of Business Conduct and the Employee Handbook, as may be amended from time to time. Adheres to all applicable laws and regulations and the company's governance/compliance program.
* Responsible for reporting violations of the company's policies and procedures, Standards of Business Conduct, governance program, laws and regulations through the company's Help Line or other mechanism that may be available at the time of the violation. Assists with internal control failure remediation efforts.

The position requires the ability to talk or hear and is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The position is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
